Illness

Physical illnesses of the human body that involve the brain are often referred to as mental illnesses.

These disorders and the emotions that often accompany them do not affect just the individual diagnosed with them.

Mental health issues do no discriminate by age, race, sex, level of education, birthplace, physical handicap, the involvement of other chronic health matters or religious affiliation.

Many of these illnesses or conditions sometimes seem "invisible", yet can have profound effects upon an individual's social, educational, family and work life.

For many years, a lot of people thought that for an individual to have a diagnosis of a mental health condition, including those of the brain, meant a normal lifestyle could never again be achieved.

And that to be "different" in any manner from the norm of society meant the real threat of being isolated socially, loss of a job or promotions, and other negative effects thrust upon the individual who didn't quite fit the norm.
