Mental Health is Physical Health

Prenatal Care can affect your child's mental health
Mental Health is a Part of Physical Health
What is Minds and K9s, Inc.?
We are a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) Consumer Run Organization that provides resources and direct service programs related to mental health. We also provide education and resources about psychiatric illnesses and related disorders of the brain. Mental health is a large umbrella, it does not equate to only understanding illness. We are also a SAMHSA NASC Regional Partner organization, working to eliminate stigma.

Our Vision:
We will show: "No one here on Earth lives in total isolation. Mental health concerns affect us all."

Our Work:
Minds and K9s, Inc. provides mental health education, resources and direct service programs for professionals, businesses, organizations and individuals. We also provide resources related to service dogs and other working animals. As a CRO, we also provide Direct Services to those with a psychiatric disability or related disorder. Community Direct Service programs include our National “Community” Arts Event, Using the Arts to Eliminate Stigma; Tough as LeatherTM Adventure program, and Tough as LeatherTM (I): serving youth (8th -12th) grade.
Why the "K9" in our Name?
There is a large and growing interest in the field of: Service, Emotional Support and Therapy animals - and the proven health benefits of having a loving relationship with a pet. That's why some of the resources we offer are related to mental health concerns and animals. Scientifically, health benefits of owning a pet have been shown. Many businesses and organizations, as well as individuals (potential or current users) wish to know more about the use of animals as it pertains to them. Canines (dogs) are also used in our Tough as LeatherTM (I) program. Many working animal/pet health questions of our readers are addressed in the Ask the Vet section of our website. Check out the wide variety of resources on mental health issues that are currently available! We do not offer dog (canine) training services.

Purpose:
To Educate people by helping them develop an awareness and understanding about the means of achieving, maintaining and increasing personal mental health by:
     • Developing individual, business and community education showing how physical, emotional and
environmental conditions have an impact on mental health
     • Nurturing increased individual comprehension of the information provided, by using proven multi-sensory
methods and techniques during presentations and seminars
     • Fostering a positive atmosphere for learning to occur, by providing resources and trainings in an
              environment that is accessible to all groups, organizations and businesses within the community;
              financially viable for them, and
     • Eliminating the stigma often associated with disorders of the brain, whether that disorder is primarily a
physical health concern due to an illness, injury, or developmental delay; or accompanied by emotions
and feelings that have a direct impact on the individual, and other persons in their family and community

Who We Serve:
Minds and K9s has the ability to bring our work to you, regardless of your location around the globe. For professional in-services or trainings, presentations may be general in nature, or be devoted to issues that are geared towards the specific needs of your group. Regardless of where you are - we bring our work to you! Direct service programs, such as Tough as LeatherTM, are provided in Leavenworth, Kansas. Located in eastern Kansas, these programs offered as a direct service, touching the lives of people living in eastern Kansas and western Missouri.
Regardless of race, age, sex or culture, mental health concerns affect us all.
What our health is on the 'inside' doesn't always show on the 'outside'.
Leaders and brave people have mental health concerns, too. Battles aren't always fought in the field, and mental health starts at home.

Charitable Gift Cards are now availble for you to purchase any time of the year. Gift giving to others is made easy, and your shopping becomes a breeze. The recipients of the gift cards can also help Minds and K9s educate about mental health, when they designate us as the recipient of their gift card. It couldn't be easier - or more important for us!
